travel north america mexico jalisco el parral tequilla
We visited El Parral Tequilla with a group of 12 on a tour to San Sebastian del Oeste in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
The site was clean and nicely landscaped, provided clean restrooms, and provided a nice break from the van ride.
The host described his process for making tequilla from blue and green agave plants.
He provided samples of several varieties of tequilla including almond, orange, coffee, and chocolate flavors made from the blue agave plant.
He even had a variety of tequilla known as "Mexican Moonshine" called "raicilla" (known as mezcal other places) made from the green agave plant with twice the alcohol content.
Although I don't drink, I tasted the "orange" variety (labeled tangerine) which he said was great for cooking and it tasted smooth and sweet.
Since I never aquired a taste for alcohol, I am usually put off when it has a strong presence... I couldn't taste the alcohol in this tequilla.
